The Pod Brothers

Jimmy, Johnny and Jeremy snuggled up in the warmth. They were sealed into their pod, ripening and growing every day.

Jimmy loved his pod-home. He was comfy, and happy, and silly.

Johnny disliked his pod-prison. He was cramped, claustrophobic and cross. Jeremy was chill; somewhere between happy Jimmy and disagreeable Johnny;

he was cool on the inside, but also wanted to be free.

    “Let me out!” yelled Johnny late one night.

    “But it’s so nice in here,” said Jimmy; “I love the three of us being together.”

Jeremy snuggled into both of them.

        “I see your points” he said. “Inside is cozy, but outside is spacious. Let’s get out and roll around.”

Johnny agreed.

    “Yes, he said. I want my own space.”

Jimmy laughed.

    “Rolling is for balls. We’re peas…let’s stay in our pod.”

Soon they heard a giant sniffing sound all around their pod. They were tossed side to side. They were thrown into the air, and caught in a clamp. Then they went for a jog. Up, down, side, side….around and around in a dizzy spin.

Then, the pod cracked open when they were flipped onto a pond!

    “We’re free,” yelled Johnny. “Let’s roll.”

    “But what was all of that motion?” Asked Jimmy. The three brothers peeked through the crack and saw a huge white dog standing on the bank of a pond. He was pawing at the water.

    “Wow!” Said Jeremy, “We were being sniffed, carried and tossed. I’m glad we’re in the water now.”

    “I know!” Said Johnny. “This pod makes a great boat!”

The peas took a vote, and decided that opening their shell to the sky, while floating in their pod on the water, away from wild dogs, was a pretty good life. So that’s where they stayed…and if you go to the pod pond, in any state in America, you can still find at least one pod of their relatives-  floating along to the rhythm of the water, looking up at the sky and loving the sweet companionship of pea-pod life.
